Chris Pratt on Parenting: How Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Tough Love Shaped His Wife Katherine |
Chris Pratt has revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger's firm parenting style has influenced his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, making her a stricter parent.
The Hollywood actor admitted that when it comes to raising their four children, Katherine tends to be the more disciplined one in their household.
"Katherine inherited some of that Austrian toughness," Pratt remarked during an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." "So maybe in that regard… as a parenting team, she is… more of the authoritarian."
The "Guardians of the Galaxy" star made these comments after the host recalled Arnold Schwarzenegger’s reputation for strict discipline while raising his kids.
At one point, Arnold reportedly tossed his son Patrick’s mattress into the swimming pool as punishment for failing to make his bed.
The action star also once threw Katherine’s shoes into the fireplace when he found them "scattered" around the house.
Arnold is a father to five grown children—Christopher, Christina, Katherine, and Patrick, whom he shares with ex-wife Maria Shriver, along with son Joseph Baena, whom he shares with Mildred Baena.

Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger married in 2019. |
Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger have two daughters, Lyla, 4, and Eloise, 2, as well as their newborn son Ford, whom they welcomed in November 2024. Pratt also has a 12-year-old son, Jack, from his previous marriage to Anna Faris.
Pratt went on to reflect on how his own upbringing shaped his parenting approach, revealing that he was "pretty scared" of his father due to his "old school" disciplinary methods. As a result, he has chosen to raise his own children differently.
However, he admitted that his kids do not fear him "at all."
"My daughter Lyla is very tough," Pratt chuckled. "She’s sweet, but she’ll say something like ‘I’ll cut your eyeballs out.’"
Back in May, the star of "The Garfield Movie" acknowledged that he approaches parenting differently depending on his children's gender.
"I hate to make generalizations based on gender but, in my experience, girls are more emotional," he shared with E! News at the time. "They've got me wrapped around their finger. It's wild."
Despite all of his children being "cuddly and snuggly," Pratt noted that his daughters aren’t as interested in rough play.
"I'll hit them with a pillow, and they'll go, 'Daddy, that hurt my feelings,'" he explained. "They like to hear stories more than they like to wrestle."
Pratt also pointed out a significant "difference" between his daughters and older son, particularly in terms of daily routines and organization. He observed that his daughters "take after their mother, who is incredibly organized."
"But even the differences between my two daughters," he added, "just goes to show that every child is a little bit different."
