Firefighters are battling a large-scale blaze at a warehouse in Abington Township, Pennsylvania, on Monday night, local authorities confirmed.
The fire broke out at SPS Technologies, located at 301 Highland Avenue, with emergency crews arriving at the scene just before 9:45 p.m. Officials reported that all employees have been accounted for. Cheltenham Township emergency responders have advised residents within a one-mile radius to remain indoors for safety precautions.
The Abington Police Department has requested the public to steer clear of the area while emergency crews work to contain the fire. Ward 6 Commissioner Jeffrey Browne also issued a warning to residents, urging them to stay away.
''Please keep all of our brave first responders as well as any employees that were in the building in your thoughts and prayers and please avoid the area!!'' Browne posted on Facebook.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
The incident is affecting SEPTA transit services, leading to a suspension of the Lansdale/Doylestown and Warminster lines due to fire department activity near Glenside Station.
SPS Technologies, originally known as the Standard Pressed Steel Company, was established in 1903. The facility spans 560,000 square feet and specializes in manufacturing fasteners and fittings for the aerospace industry.
