Trump Fulfills 13-Year-Old DJ Daniel's Dream During Congressional Address
During his address to Congress, President Donald Trump took a heartfelt moment to recognize Devarjaye "DJ" Daniel, a 13-year-old battling brain cancer since 2018, who has long dreamed of becoming a police officer. In a powerful gesture, Trump granted him honorary status in the U.S. Secret Service.
"Joining us in the gallery tonight is a young man who truly loves our police," Trump said, following his tribute to the country’s law enforcement personnel.
“The doctors gave him five months at most to live. That was more than six years ago," the president continued. "Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true.”
“And tonight, DJ, we're going to do you the biggest honor of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States.”
DJ has already been sworn in as an honorary officer by numerous police departments across the nation.
Upon hearing Trump's announcement, DJ’s face lit up with surprise before his father lifted him up for the audience to see. Holding his new certificate high, DJ was met with a wave of applause, cheers, and chants from those in attendance.
In a rare display of bipartisan unity, Rep. Laura Gillen, D-N.Y., stood and applauded in recognition of DJ’s achievement.
After this touching moment, Trump shifted focus to the topic of childhood cancer, urging newly appointed Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to "get toxins out of our environment, poisons out of our food supply and keep our children healthy and strong."
