What is DOGEquest?

A newly launched online platform, "Dogequest," has reportedly exposed the personal details of Tesla owners across the United States. The leaked data includes names, addresses, phone numbers, and email information.

The site, which incorporates an interactive map, also provides information on Tesla dealership locations, charging stations, and even employees associated with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an agency under the leadership of Elon Musk.

According to the site's operators, personal details of Tesla owners will only be taken down if the individuals can verify that they have sold their vehicles.

A particularly alarming feature of the website is its use of a Molotov cocktail image as a cursor, which has raised concerns about its potential to incite violence. "Dogequest" has been associated with a series of vandalism incidents targeting Tesla owners and dealership locations.

Recent reports indicate that acts of arson have taken place, with one suspect in Las Vegas accused of setting multiple Tesla vehicles ablaze.

In addition to physical damage, Tesla owners—especially those driving the newly released Cybertruck—have been subjected to verbal harassment and abuse.

While the website maintains that it is neutral, it promotes "creative expressions of protest," a stance that critics argue could contribute to an increase in intimidation and aggression against Tesla drivers. This controversy is unfolding in the midst of ongoing demonstrations against Musk’s involvement in the Trump administration's cost-cutting measures, which have sparked significant unrest and opposition.

As a result of the growing backlash and negative media attention, Tesla’s stock has experienced a 6% decline. Since December 2024, the company's market value has dropped by 53%, prompting some investors to push for Musk’s resignation as CEO due to the adverse effects on Tesla’s financial stability.

The Justice Department has yet to issue a statement on the matter. While doxing—the act of publicly revealing private information without consent—can lead to harassment and legal repercussions, no federal law explicitly criminalizes it.

Compounding the controversy, Musk’s leadership role at DOGE has been linked to contentious decisions, such as the mass termination of federal employees. This has intensified calls for intervention, with some officials urging the FBI to investigate the cyber group responsible for the website.

As demonstrations persist and Tesla's public image continues to suffer, even long-term investors are joining the chorus demanding Musk’s resignation, citing the detrimental impact his actions are having on the company's financial health and reputation.
